In loving memory of
Leslie Joan Engel

Lake Minnetonka Figure Skating Club has dedicated the Sunflower Classic Competition to our fellow skater and friend, Leslie Engel. She began skating in Minnetonka at the age of 3 1/2 and became a Pre-Silver level ice dancer and a vital part of the Windjammers Synchronized Skating Team. She passed away on Dec 3rd, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her remarkable strength, grace and poise made her a true champion both on and off the ice. Leslie encouraged us all to "live fiercely" and we hope all of our competitors will honor her memory and "skate fiercely." This illustration delightfully illustrates Leslie's wonderful smile, her love of skating and of sunflowers. The sunflowers depict her inspirational character and we are reminded that she is cheering us on. A portion of the proceeds from the Sunflower Classic will be donated to the Leslie Joan Engel Memorial Fund.
Memorial Fund
The Leslie Joan Engel Memorial Fund was created at the Leslie's request. Her family, classmates, fellow skaters and their families have donated many dollars to her fund since her death. The Engel family has set up the Fund under the auspices of the Lake Minnetonka Figure Skating Club. It was Leslie’s wish that any monies collected be used for the sole benefit of The Lake Minnetonka’s Figure Skating Club’s Synchronized Skating Program. Her vision was to use the money in a way that could benefit the entire program, not just individual skaters.
